Parkland became a city in 1963. Farmer and rancher Bruce Blount first proposed it as BBB Ranches, and state Rep. Emerson Alsworth added the name Parkland to the bill. For its first decade, horses outnumbered residents, and zoning still protects the city's park-like character. Parkland grew from about 24,000 people in 2010 to about 34,700 in 2020, in northern Broward County.
