Sweetwater traces back to Sweetwater Groves, a 1920s plat that the 1926 hurricane cut short. In 1938 Clyde Andrews began selling lots, and a troupe of retired Russian circus performers, all little people, bought land and built small-scale homes. The city incorporated in 1941.
