Lauderhill was incorporated in 1959. Developer Herbert Sadkin first planned to call it Sunnydale, until his friend William Safire said it sounded like a Brooklyn neighborhood. When Sadkin pointed out there were no hills, Safire noted there were probably no dales in Lauderdale either, and the name Lauderhill stuck. About 74,500 people live there today, in one of the most Jamaican and West Indian cities in the country, and in 2010 Central Broward Park hosted the first international cricket match between two full ICC members on U.S. soil.
